15 Years of Alameda Peeps: Thank You, Chrissy Collins
Today marks 15 years of Alameda Peeps! It’s hard to believe that what started as a simple Facebook group has grown into such a vibrant, caring, and impactful community.
As we celebrate this milestone, I want to take a moment to thank Chrissy Collins, who started Alameda Peeps on October 11, 2010. Without her vision and initiative, none of this would exist. She created a space where neighbors could connect, share information, support each other, and build genuine friendships.
Over these 15 years, we’ve seen our community grow from a small Facebook group to a multi-platform community with over 20,400 members on Facebook and 25,800 on Reddit. But more importantly, we’ve seen countless acts of kindness, community support, and neighbors helping neighbors.
We’ve organized Turkey Drives that have raised tens of thousands of dollars for the Alameda Food Bank. We’ve supported local businesses through Cash Mobs. We’ve helped families in need, organized community events, and worked with the City of Alameda on important initiatives. We’ve laughed together, shared memes, and built real connections across our island community.
None of this would have been possible without Chrissy’s initial spark. She created something special, and all of us who have been part of this community over the years have helped it grow and evolve into what it is today.
So thank you, Chrissy, for starting Alameda Peeps 15 years ago. Thank you to all the moderators who have helped guide and nurture this community over the years. And most importantly, thank you to every single member of the Alameda Peeps community—past and present—who has made this such an amazing place to be.
Here’s to 15 years, and to many more years of neighbors helping neighbors, sharing laughs, and making Alameda an even better place to live.
