2017 Year in Review: Unity and Response
Unity and Response
2017 was a year that tested our community’s resilience and demonstrated our capacity for coming together in times of need. From local celebrations to disaster relief, Alameda Peeps showed what a connected community could accomplish.
Hands Across Alameda
In celebration of Earth Day, Alameda Peeps organized “Hands Across Alameda,” a community event that brought neighbors together to show unity and environmental awareness. The event highlighted our commitment to both community connection and environmental stewardship.
North Bay Fire Response
When devastating wildfires swept through the North Bay in October 2017, Alameda Peeps quickly mobilized to help. Community members organized donation drives, collected supplies, and raised funds to support fire victims. The response was overwhelming, showing that when our neighbors in the region needed help, Alameda Peeps was ready to step up.
This disaster response effort demonstrated the power of our community network to quickly organize and provide meaningful support during emergencies.
School Lunch Debt Cash Mob
One of the most heartwarming initiatives of 2017 was when Alameda Peeps organized a “cash mob” to help clear school lunch debt for families in the Alameda Unified School District (AUSD). Community members came together to donate funds, ensuring that no child would go hungry at school due to financial hardship.
This effort showed our community’s commitment to supporting families and children in Alameda, and it set a precedent for future philanthropic initiatives.
Looking Forward
2017 proved that Alameda Peeps could be a force for good in our community, whether through celebration, disaster response, or supporting families in need. As we looked ahead to 2018, we were excited to continue building on these efforts.
